Wood--I work with storm fallen or diseased trees only
Perry is a woodturning artist living in Seattle, Washington. He began his woodturning journey in 2018. Perry is passionate about trees and forests and--in an effort to honor the beauty of trees--works almost entirely with wood from storm-fallen or diseased trees. Perry uses a lathe to make bowls, lidded boxes and other wood products but his passion and main focus is hollow form vessels (vases). Since 2018, Perry has made a few thousand vessels . Simplicity is his focus and he aims to create beautiful forms that incorporate some of the figure, knots and imperfections of the trees with which he works.

  • Describe an object that has inspired you
  • Describe a place that has inspired you
Washington state is--in my opinion--the most beautiful area of the United States and there are hundreds of forests nearby. My wife and I frequently take our kids to Mount Rainier National Park and, although I find inspiration in nearly every forest, it is at Mount Rainier that I find the greatest inspiration and appreciation for trees.
  • Describe a person that has inspired you
I am completely self-taught so nearly all of my progress has come from standing at the lathe and learning through mistakes. I have had the benefit of social media, however, and world renowned woodturning artists like Mark Sanger (UK) and John Jordan (US) have offered feedback, critique and inspiration over the past few years.
